Name: Velvet Age: 2 years old Breed: Pitbull mix Gender: Female Velvet is a special case here with COFAS. She was found in the woods, starving and malnourished. Her skeleton was completely visible and she had hairloss over her entire body. Sadly, Velvet tested positive for heartworms and will require expensive treatment. When we first saw her we thought she was only about 4-5 months old given her tiny frame. Velvet is actually full grown and will retain her pocket-pitty dimensions! She was 14lbs when she was originally rescued, 17 when she arrived, and is now about 24lbs. She should gain another pound or two for her optimum weight. Velvet will soon be spayed and go through treatment for those heartworms. Once she is completely healthy, Velvet will be available for adoption. Temperament-wise, Velvet has a demeanor as soft as her name. She is timid but happily approaches you, especially with food! Velvet gets excited for breakfast time and loves to eat!! She gets unsure of people at nighttime for some reason, but will let you carry her inside. She doesn't jump up, is quiet in her crate (except when it's mealtime, yay!) and is doing well with her housebreaking. She is good with other dogs. Update, march xxxx! Velvet has made some incredible progress!! Velvet has been successfully treated for heartworms and is now also spayed and fully vetted. She is a healthy 30lbs and a hefty, muscled girl who LOVES to play fetch with the other dogs. She plays with other dogs and loves her foster dad. Velvet remains scared with new situations, but we've began socializing her outside of her foster home. She would love to live in a fairly quiet home with another dog or two for companionship and loving patient people to care for her. Not yet ready to adopt?
